Ruched Leggings – The Secret To Wearing Leggings In Public

posted on: Sunday, July 16, 2017

Ruched leggings are one sneaky little way to wear comfortable clothing in public. Without looking like a sloppy joe.

Just when I thought I’d be shitting out outfit posts like it’s my usual business, the weather decides to turn on me & I suffer a severe wave of procrastination.

So it’s not really a sickness, so much as a disorder of laziness but I promise the weather of late makes it that much harder to do pretty much anything.

Case in point: trying to shoot this outfit was a magnificent difficulty in itself. Mouth full of hair. Eyes full of burning wind. Cropped top flailing around presenting more than I’d like to. The only thing easy about today was these leggings. Never thought I’d be wearing leggings in public with a cropped top of all choices, but it just worked with this pair. Of course, it helps that they are trouser leggings & not just regular leggings. Not sure I can really tell the difference besides the fact that these are so much more flattering & not see through when I bend over.

I find it really hard to find comfortable leggings with real waistbands & not that little bit of elastic that strangles your waist when you overeat in public. These trouser leggings have a thick waistband which holds my midsection in securely (but comfortably) & the side panel ruche makes them completely appropriate to wear outside of your house.

Tick, tick, tick.

  • Mouth full of hair & eyes full of wind accurately sums up what it was like trying to take pictures on a cruise to the Baltic that I recently went on ahaha. The struggle was REAL – first world problems!

Oh boy the wind looks fierce! But to be honest, I think it adds some interest and movement to your photos! Hopefully the leggings were warm (they look warm). Thanks for sharing your outfit!

  • The leggings look very comfortable! I actually love wearing leggings/ jeggings but maybe right now it is too hot to wear in Bangkok! Comfortness is the key for me right now!

  • They sound awesome, even if it wasn’t the best outfit to wear given the windy weather!

I find winter weather makes it difficult to get motivated for outfit photos – I take mine when I leave the house and especially in winter the idea of an extra minute in bed instead of a minute standing with a tripod is hard to pass up, haha!

Hope you are having an awesome weekend!

  • Love that you mentioned these aren’t see-through when bending over – that’s such a massive problem usually with leggings being worn outdoors! The ruching on these leggings is very stylish, and I LOVE the photo of you sat on the floor (7th image down). Perfect!

  • Can I just say that I love these photos? It looks real and relatable and I love that it’s non-editorial perfection. I am afraid to wear leggings in public or outside gym…let’s just say I have seen too many unseen things.

  • Hahaha, love your writing style girl, and your style style 🙂 Good job battling the wind and the clouds for blogging’s sake, it’s part of the trade and the results are awesome. I am not a fan of leggings in public, unless I am wearing them with a long shirt or top to cover most part of them, but these look much more like something I’d wear in public with no shame. Hope the weather gets better, honey. Sending you lots of love from cloudy England Xx

  • Haha the struggle is real! But the photos turned out okay 🙂 Since your look is sporty, I thought the tough look in your poses were intentional 😀 anyway, I wish I know that kind of leggings during my college years. They sounds very comfy. We weren’t allowed to wear leggings in classes back in college, but I’m part of the theater and leggings are a must when we rehearse so we found ways to get a way with it. Wear an oversize shirt or hoodie or a long blouse and the campus security won’ give a damn 😀

The weather did turn yesterday – it is a bit better today. Though still cold.
I like that you have gotten out and about for this one even though the weather is not the best.
The overcast light is actually easier to photograph in – less shadows.
Love this outfit – I don’t really wear leggings.
I am trying to find great jeans to wear at the moment… Any thoughts on a brand.
    I am really picky.
I was thinking going to General Pants…
    For Neuw denim…

Oh I have never worn them before.
I will let you know how I go with them. They were in the window in Sydney CBD so I will check them out.

I can totally relate to those feelings of procrastination. I had so much material to share when I came back from Europe that I haven’t had to take outfit photos in the longest time. I thought I would front load and have 1 photoshoot per weekend so I wouldn’t be trying to cram 3 shoots in one day (which I usually do). Low and behold I’m almost done with my Europe content and I’ve only completed two shoots. Haha darn procrastination disease!

  • Sorry to hear about the weather. I would really enjoy some cold weather right now. Been boiling at 40 degrees for the past two months lol. Anyways, love how you pulled together this outfit. It’s so cool and laid back and the pop of pink adds a great touch. Wishing you a great day. xx

  • I love your leggings! They are so fun to be casual or dress up and becoming a really great item to own. This was such a great post and your photos look amazing 🙂 http://www.bauchlefashion.com/2017/07/a-sun-kissed-guide-to-summer-style.html

  • Great leggings! I love wearing them running errands. I know what you mean about the waist band. I love getting fitness or athleisure ones because they often have a good stretch and are so good especially in the summer when you’re breaking a sweat. 🙂

  • Hey you, I saw your fit mid section. Hello there!! Hahah. I think the wild wind added to your carefree look and woman, you look quite fine really. I’m sorry to hear about the weather there, but you can just stand in a corner in your house for a shoot, I’d still find your outfit posts or kitchen sponge posts interesting. Take it easy, champ. As for the trouser leggings, I feel them! Especially when they come in black like yours. The see-through ones are definitely cray for the public when you know your arse is sticking out. I’ve spotted random strangers’ behinds years back and might have flashed mine too. Such is life. These days people are picky about their leggings and that I feel, is a sigh of relief. YOU slayed this look! I love it!! <3 xx

  • I think these photos are real and despite the fact you have been struggling with wind etc. you guys did a great job! I love the cropped top (not mentioning I live and breathe in leggings hah). I find that in Dubai (where I live) shooting outfit photos outside is even worse! Most of the year it is really hot, so you sweat like a pig. Then your make-up melts and you come home with one of the worst headaches of your life. Not mentioning trying to find a good spot, parking, your lens sweating etc. This is one of the reasons why I admire all fashion bloggers who suffer through weather conditions for the sake of art xx

  • These photos are beautiful, and I’m loving the cute leggings!
